Case study: Transforming The Suburban Brew from Cold to Cosy with Helios Titan Infrared Heaters

by | Aug 7, 2024 | Case study, Hospitality

In winter, many businesses find it hard to heat large spaces with high ceilings, and The Suburban Brew in Glynde, Adelaide, was no exception. Conventional heating methods, such as medium wave infrared heaters and long wave panel heaters, often fall short in such environments. They struggle to distribute sufficient heat unless densely mounted which incurs high energy costsIn the case of The Suburban Brew, the old sawtooth-roof factory which houses their Brewery and Tap Room in an attractive industrial aesthetic was an impossible space to heat in winter Using Helios Titan Short Wave Infrared Heaters provided a solution unlike any other – energy-efficiency with instant targeted warmth and heaters that very much fit with the aesthetic of the taproom.

Space Assessment

The brewery and taproom at The Suburban Brew is a large indoor area with a capacity of 200 with high uninsulated sawtooth ceiling and lots of glass.  In winter this is a challenging space to heat efficiently as heat rises and is lost to the environment without giving any significant benefit to those standing or sitting at floor level.

Installation & Placement

Tony Dichiera, Managing Director of The Suburban Brew wanted to provide some comfort to customers braving this space in winter and on colder days.  He understood that it was an impossible to properly heat area and hoped to find a heating system that would be affordable yet provide some warmth. Infrared Australia was able to show that only the use of short-wave infrared heating can warm customers in this environment as other types of heaters mainly heat air and hot air rises; in contrast, 92% efficient short-wave infrared radiates off surfaces – if you are in the area being heated you feel warmth but outside it you will be colder.

The result was the use of Horizontal Double Titans, each 4kW, mounted from chains from overhead cross beams to spot heat areas selectively. This draws customers to these areas while the remainder of the space remains colder and less inviting. See how The Suburban Brew’s customers are enjoying winter in their Glynde taproom:

Why Titan Short Wave Infrared Heaters?

If you’re looking for a way to keep your large space warm without seeing your energy bills skyrocket, Infrared Australia’s Titan or Heliosa range of Infrared Heaters are your go-to. Here’s why they’re a great choice:

These heaters use short wave infrared technology, heating people and objects directly, not the air around them. Unlike other conventional infrared heaters, Heliosa and Titan’s short wave infrared heaters can localise heat to specific areas. This makes them ideal for large, open spaces where full heating would be impractical or too costly. Localised heating ensures that people and objects in the heater’s path feel warm, even on the coldest days.

Imagine a sunbeam on a chilly day — that’s what these heaters feel like. They target heat just where you need it, so you, your staff or customers are comfortable without you having to heat the entire space. Perfect for large indoor areas or open areas where gas bottle heaters, or medium wave or panel electric heaters fall short.

Conclusion

The Suburban Brew’s adoption of Helios Titan Short Wave Infrared Heaters has proven to be an efficient and effective solution for maintaining warmth in their large, high-ceilinged space. These heaters not only meet the brewery’s heating needs but also align with their commitment to sustainability and customer comfort. By targeting heat directly to where it’s needed most, the Titan heaters ensure that The Suburban Brew can use its space even on cold nights in the middle of winter – good for business and reputation!
